Construction

Construction began on Monday, 17th October, but I can’t be involved in. Monday morning I went to BRD-exhibition in Oslo Norway, a whole week. How frustrating when I can actually be on the building site. I am confident, of course, Petri Hietala team building skills, but still ... Thank you, Jean Francois for photos.

Here is a little video from Norway, where we are assembling a stand.

Yeah, it's not the same as the actual construction of the house, but at least it is to tune us in the right mood. :)

Unload

The first Finnish Ikihirsi truck arrived from the factory. The truck is a type of Megatrailer and too big to fit in to turn on the site. Load was therefore obliged to unload on the road.  I had anticipated this, and I asked permission from the house in the city (requires traffic arrangements) to unload the truck on the road.

The longest log bundles to fit between the houses was a little close in ...

We signed the plot contract, and we can therefore start working. I did notice the opening of the building site. The groundwork has been done and a mason can start casting the foundation.

The Architect

Our area is situated near the protected historical monument. Therefore our documents will get to Bâtiment France (Public Works Department which is responsible for protecting the cultural heritage of the French architecture) for examination.

I agreed meeting with the official architect to devoted the house draft and our project. The meeting went well and the construction of a log house is not a problem. Architect appointed for us, however, a few requirements: our house is built of logs but the corners of the crossing are not allowed. It does not pose a problem for us because the house is built Ikihirsi "City-corner" technique, without any excess ends of the logs.

Also, the natural wood color or varnish is not permitted, but the outer walls will be painted with an opaque color. Strong colors such as red is not allowed and the architraves  and fascia boards color will merge with the wall color.
